Patient Care and Teledermatology

Within my regular outpatient work, I have strongly noticed that ‘remote’ dermatological care has been on the rise over the last decade. This is something I strongly believe in because it fits within today’s 24/7 society. For this reason, I am personally active within various teledermatology platforms and digital healthcare applications. In recent years, I have spent an average of 12 weeks per year in Spain. As a result, I have built up many connections and know the ropes within the healthcare system in Spain. This applies particularly to the region on the border of the Costa Blanca and the Costa Calida. As many as 50,000 to 75,000 Dutch people and 75,000 to 110,000 Belgians reside permanently in these two regions or visit their second homes regularly. For many, language barriers, long waiting lists, and finding a suitable specialist constitute barriers within the local healthcare system. Recently, in collaboration with 247dermatologist, I launched a service for Dutch and Belgian nationals residing in Spain, such as expats, digital nomads, remote workers, second home owners, and, of course, retirees. As a Dutch dermatologist, my mission is to help these people with accessible, high-quality online teledermatological care in their own language.
